Davide Maldi nasce a Roma nel 1983. Diplomatosi presso la Scuola romana del fumetto, inizia a lavorare come illustratore e storyboard artist per il cinema e in diversi videoclip. Studia Arti e Scienze dello Spettacolo presso La Sapienza di Roma e Cinema e New Media presso la Libera Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma (RUFA). Nel 2007 vince una residenza di studio e formazione presso la New York film Academy. Lavora come regista, filmmaker e direttore della fotografia per il cinema e teatro, collaborando con diverse compagnie di teatro sperimentale, realizzando documentari di ricerca sociale e format televisivi di inchiesta e intrattenimento. Col suo cinema, a metà strada tra realtà e finzione, esplora il mondo reale per mettere in scena racconti che all’interno della società contemporanea rimandano a moderni riti di passaggio e nuove cerimonie. I suoi film hanno ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti e sono stati presentati in concorso in numerosi festival internazionali, tra cui Festival del Cinema di Locarno, Torino Film Festival, Dok Leipzig, FICX Gijón International Film Festival. Il suo ultimo lavoro, L’apprendistato (2019) è stato proiettato al Museum of Modern Art di New York per la rassegna MoMA Doc Fortnight 2020.
Davide Maldi was born in Rome in 1983. He graduated from the Roman School of Comics, then began working as an illustrator and storyboard artist in cinema and video. He studied Art and Sciences of the Performing Arts at Sapienza University, in Rome, and Cinema and New Media at the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA). In 2007 he has won a grant for a training program at the New York Film Academy. He works as a director, filmmaker and director of photography for cinema and theatre, collaborating with many experimental theatre companies, producing social research documentaries, investigative reports and entertainment TV shows. His cinema, between reality and fiction, explores our society staging stories out of a specific time-frame, in search of modern forms of ceremonies and rites of passage. His films have been shown and won awards in several international film festivals including Locarno Film Festival, Turin Film Festival, Dok Leipzig, FICX Gijón International Film Festival among others. His last work, The Young Observant (2019) made it’s US premiere at the Museum of Modern Art in New York during the MoMA Doc Fortnight in 2020.
